A Soft, Modern Shag: Cut and Colour
For our recent photoshoot, we created a style that blends effortless movement with subtle sophistication—a modern take on the soft shag. This look is all about natural texture, lived-in color, and layers that enhance the face without feeling over-styled.
Techniques Behind the Look
The Haircut: Soft Layers + Natural Movement
The foundation of this look is a mid-length cut that falls right around the shoulders. The shape includes:
Face-framing layers that soften the jawline and bring attention to the eyes
A wispy, brow-grazing fringe that melts seamlessly into the side layers
Feathered, textured ends that give the style a relaxed, airy feel
Medium to long layers throughout the interior for movement and versatility
It’s a perfect blend of structure and ease—polished enough for a professional setting but soft enough for everyday wear.
Cutting Techniques Used
To create this style’s signature texture, we used a combination of techniques:
Precision layering to remove weight and open up the shape
Point-cutting through the ends to break up the blunt line and add softness
Slide cutting around the face for a seamless transition between the fringe and side layers
Optional razor texturizing, which helps achieve that feathered, airy finish
These techniques work together to create lift, movement, and a naturally tousled look.
